Starter Dieting Tips

Suppress your appetite

Look, plenty of people have tried sudden diets with major changes, cutting out parts of their lifestyle in favour of a sudden detox or single food group lifestyle. And all those people got very hungry. And then they gave up.

It's a sad truth, but being hungry is simply one of the easiest ways to lose determination on weight loss. Ideally, you should be shrinking your stomach and suppressing your appetite. Don't return to bad habits, if you're in a hurry just cut down your food intake considerably (but not all the way). When you start feeling hungry choose a sensible amount of food and stick to it. Having shrunk up your stomach should feel full with moderate amounts, where you used to need feasts.

Remember, stay at certain levels. A few big meals will stretch it back out and bring on the hunger pains, so a little self-control will help in the long run.

Get some sleep

Sleep often feels like one of the least important issues in your life. There's work, family, leisure and the gym time you're probably committed to if you're reading this. It's easy to cut off a few hours of sleep here and there using the fair logic that you can always catch up later.

But sleep has a genuine effect on losing weight. We're not talking about the idea that eating less than six hours before sleep gains more calories, that was actually debunked a few weeks ago, so there you go. Instead, we're talking about appetite.

A lack of sleep has the off effect of driving down your levels of Leptin and Ghretin. Essentially, these chemicals are responsible for the sensation of satisfaction you feel after consuming food and stimulation of the appetite, respectively. A lack of sleep will result in you feeling hungry more often, and taking longer to become satisfied with what you do eat. Obviously, this is a terrible turn events for anyone serious about weight loss, so try your best to get in a safe eight hours.

Focus on what you can have

One of the major obstacles to pursuing your weight loss goals is the sense of negativity it's easy to dwell on. Thinking about the many foods you're cutting out of your life can make your new lifestyle seem overwhelmingly oppressive, and you're likely to lapse more than once. Instead find healthy foods you enjoy and focus on them, yogurts, fish or certain fruits. Keep your mind looking forward to these new treats, and you should find it far easier to find determination in your diet.
