How Do You Choose What To Eat On Nutrisystem?

I sometimes hear from folks who have a little anxiety when it comes to choosing meals on Nutrisystem. They aren't sure which foods to choose and what time to choose them. And some feel a bit overwhelmed at all of the choices.

I heard from someone who said: "I received my Nutrisystem package and I'm sitting here staring at all of this food. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to eat and when I'm supposed to eat it and I don't understand how to add the sides." I'll try to offer some clarification in the following article.

You Can Choose Any Food From Each Category: The foods are designed to be somewhat interchangeable. For example, if you feel like something sweet in the morning and choose the cinnamon bun over the eggs, that's going to be absolutely fine because all of the breakfast generally have similar amounts of calories, carbs and proteins. Essentially, you could choose any breakfast you wanted from those provided and still be in perfect compliance.

The same is true of lunches, dinners, snacks, and desserts. I sometimes have people tell me that they wish that they would just be told what to eat because they feel like they're going to make the wrong choice. There's really no need to feel that way because the diet is designed so that any choice you make is going work as well as any other food. And frankly, it's good to learn to make your own choices because once you meet your goals, you'll eventually go off of the diet. So this is a skill that you will eventually need.

Snacks and desserts work in essentially the same way. You choose one of each every day. Some people will eat their dessert with one of their main meals and others will spread it out and eat it when they're hungry for another snack. As far as timing goes, that's really flexible too. Most people eat at whatever times they would normally take their meals and snacks when they weren't dieting and others have restrictive schedules which mandate that they space some of their meals out further apart. Either is fine. It's a good idea to try to space your meals so that you won't become hungry if you're schedule allows for this.

Fresh Sides Are Added To Each Main Meal: In addition, you get to add in fresh sides to each of your meals. Each meal comes with a suggestion for sides which makes things quite easy, or you can come up with your own sides keeping in mind that they want for you to choose from a few different categories. They want for you to add in what are called "smart carbs" (which are slowly digested carbohydrates like pastas, whole grains, and fruits) as well as what is called "power fuels" which are high in protein. Examples of power fuels are things like eggs, nuts, and cheese.

So to answer the question posed, you know what to eat by choosing a daily provided meal in each category and then adding in the appropriate sides. It's really not as intimidating as it sounds. For example, here's a sample day to give you some idea of what you're looking at. You could chose waffles for breakfast and have strawberries for a side. For lunch, you could have the beef, bean and cheese burrito with some carrot sticks. And for dinner you could have the glazed turkey with the suggested almost green beans. This still leaves you with a snack and a dessert that you can eat when you see fit. You are free to choose whatever is tempting to you at the time.
