Spicy Baby Food Diet Recipes

Who says all baby foods are bland? Baby foods can also be hot or spicy. All the flavors of the Indian cuisine can be incorporated into your daily baby food meals. Going into a baby food diet doesn't mean you have to stop enjoying all your favorite Indian foods. In fact, Indian baby food recipes are one of the most popular among adult consumers.

For those opting to prepare their own baby foods, Indian recipes are also one of the most complicated to cook. This is because you will need to use several spices to invoke that true Indian flavor.
Here are some Indian baby food recipes you can try cooking at home. Adjust the amount of spice used in cooking according to your taste.

Vegetables and Spice

For the vegetables, you will need one small white potato, one small carrot, 1/4 cup each of cauliflower, a small onion and peas and two tablespoons of desiccated coconut and tomato puree. For your spices, you'll need a pinch each of cumin, turmeric, ground ginger and coriander. You will also need a teaspoon of olive oil and half cup of water.

In a medium saucepan, heat oil, cook the chopped onion and diced carrot until tender. Pour in the tomato puree and then stir in the spices. Mix well and cook for another two minutes. Add in the remaining vegetables, coconut and water. Bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover the pan and continue simmering for another twenty minutes. Cool then mash. You can also use a food processor for better consistency.

Chicken and Potato Curry

This is the most popular Indian flavor in one complete meal. For your baby food curry, you will need a whole chicken breast, finely chopped, two medium-sized potatoes, diced and peeled, half a cup of lentils and a small chopped onion. For the spices you'll need one tablespoon of safflower oil, a pinch each of cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, coriander and turmeric. Water for boiling.

In a medium or large saucepan, heat oil and brown the onion. Add the cinnamon powder. Stir in the finely chopped chicken and cook, stirring until browned. Mix in potatoes and the rest of the spices. Stir, then add lentils. Pour in two and a half cups of water and bring to boil. Lower heat and let simmer for another thirty minutes or until the lentils are cooked. Add more water if necessary. You can serve as is with rice or add more water to puree.

Indian Vegetable Soup

This is a mixed vegetable recipe with an Indian twist. You'll need a medium-sized potato, carrot, beet and turnip, all peeled and diced. You also need 1/4 cup each of peas, chopped green beans and diced cauliflower and a leaf or two of cabbage. To spice up your veggies, you need one bay leaf and a pinch of cumin. You will also need one tablespoon butter and around four cups of water.

Over low fire, melt the butter in a deep sauce pan. Add the bay leaf and cumin and cook stirring for two minutes. Add in all the vegetables and continue cooking over low fire, stirring occasionally for ten minutes. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and continue simmering until all vegetables are cooked. Remove the bay leaf and let cool. You can eat the dish as is or use a blender to puree.
